Klagenfurt am Wörthersee

As the capital of Austria’s southernmost state Carinthia, our host city Klagenfurt combines the charms of a rural center with the flair of a major city. With a population of approximately 100.000, Klagenfurt is Austria’s sixth largest city and not only because of its astonishing and idyllic location right on the shores of the beautiful Lake Wörthersee it is one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations. In the lovely historic city center a number of cafés and restaurants invite you to linger and enjoy a cup of coffee or a delicious snack. Here you can also find a variety of shops and last but not least the so called “City Arkaden”, the city’s well known mall. Shopping, strolling around and relishing the unique ambience of the old city center – a more than popular pastime activity of fans and parents. The well developed public transportation network is operated and run via busses, the use of which is included in our Shuttle tickets. In combination with our very own UWG Shuttle lines, that are designed for our participants alone, it is very easy to get from A to B throughout the whole city.
Sports City Klagenfurt – Event City Klagenfurt Klagenfurt is the event city in the south of Austria and a center for national as well as international sports events. Right next to the Lake Wörthersee, which is also one of the warmest and largest alpine lakes, thousands of athletes and fans gather year after year to be a part of sports events such as our United World Games, the “Ironman Austria Carinthia” or the “FIVB Beach Volleyball Grand Slam”. In 2008 Klagenfurt was part of the European Soccer Championship, which was held in Switzerland and Austria. A number of games of the group stages took place at the Wörthersee Stadium, which is also the main location of the UWG. The city is also a paradise for amateur athletes, as they can follow in the footsteps of their heroes and enjoy the numerous sports venues as well as the beautiful environment surrounding Klagenfurt.
